Was built by Portuguese in 1624 CE by identifying the strategical value of the area and they made the perfect fort with military power. And they used the things of Temple of Thousand Pillars. This temple was totally destroyed by the Portuguese colonial Constantino de Sa de Noronha. He destroyed the ancient facts and Buddhist Monastery in Gokanna (Trincomalee). The old fort that built by Portuguese by using the pillars and the things they destroyed the Temple of Thousand Pillars.  The Fort built with the triangular shape which highly used for strategical war and it was increasing the safety as well as for the defense of the fort. There are three bastions which perfectly match with the geographical facts and highly effective to increase the military power.  After that Dutch captured the fort in 1639 and later on new fort has been built by Dutch in the year 1665 and named it Fort Fredrick. There are large pillars with masonry created things remaining by presenting the colonial era. Walking through the ancient ruins make the tremendous feeling with unforgettable sweet memories for the visitors. There are many things to observe on Fort Fredrick.
